Pentaport was the first music festival of its size in the Republic of Korea, dating back to 1999. At that time, the festival was called the Triport festival and the impressive lineup was scheduled to include Deep Purple, Rage Against the Machine, Dream Theater, The Prodigy and more. It was scheduled to be a two-day event, but by sheer bad luck the first day of the festival was struck by a typhoon. Attendees were poorly prepared for the heavy rain and strong winds, causing the organizers to cancel Triport’s second day. It was a crushingly disappointing end to Korea’s first ever open-air rock festival, compounded by enormous losses for the promoters, who postponed plans for a subsequent Triport indefinitely.

I was 22 stationed in South Korea 🇰🇷 in the Army in 1999…M-TV ASIA had a fest about a 5 hour train ride by myself to the southern shores of the Peninsula, from my base; & these rat 🐀bastards failed to show due to a tiny Monsoon! I still partied though at the venue. I think I remember being on stage dancing while M-tv cameras & interviewers
were talking to me, while drunk on Soju, serving Jäegermeister shots, soaking wet & covered in mud! I also think 🤔 these guys owe me a ticket! 🎫
